One of the spokespersons for the protesting group ( Stop Faroe Islands Whale Murder) told The Metal Voice, "We are boycotting the band TYR because of their implications with the Grindadrap in the Faroe Islands. The Grindadrap which is also known as the Grind (yearly event) is a large massacre of dolphins and the lead singer Heri Joensen approves of this Grind and says it is a cultural tradition in the Islands but it's a massive blood bath.

Statement from the TYR singer Heri Joensen 2016 The Spectator in regards to this issue

"I live in the Faroe Islands, where whaling has been part of our way of life for centuries. Last month, I was working on a long-finned pilot whale the day after it had been killed. Since more than four-fifths of the world’s population eats meat, I thought it would be fine to share such a picture — it’s no secret, surely, how meat is produced?"

The Faroe or Faeroe Islands (in Faroese Føroyar) are 18 islands in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, northwest of Scotland and halfway between Iceland and Norway. The Islands are a self-governing island territory of Denmark, although they politically aim for higher independence.

The Grindadrap, more commonly referred to as the Grind, is an opportunistic whale hunt which occurs annually in the Faroe Islands. A whale hunt only occurs when whales are sighted by chance, and close enough to land to drive into the shores of shallow bays and beach.
